Recommended by a Jogja Resident! A Gondola Trip to the Scenic Timang Beach!

Sunset at Timang Beach

Look at this stunning sunset view!

This is Yogyakarta! In this article, I will introduce a recommended tourist spot in the suburbs of Yogyakarta where you can fully enjoy such great nature.

Pantai Timang

The photo above is of Timang Beach, located in the southeast, about a 1-hour and 40-minute drive from the center of Yogyakarta.

It has become a famous tourist spot for its gondola and thrilling bridge that allow you to cross over to the small, remote island of Timang.

This time, I have compiled a report on this tourist spot.

Timang Beach

How to Get There

The best recommendation is to use a rental car service with a guide and driver.

In Yogyakarta, if you hire a rental car service with a guide and driver,
the market price is about 600K – 1,000K IDR for a full day.
※The market price may vary depending on the season and congestion.

Tickets, etc.

ActivityPrice
JEEP GuideIDR 350K (per Jeep, max 4 people)
GondolaIDR 150K (per person)
Bridge TollIDR 100K (per person)

In this area, you basically need to hire a JEEP to get to the beach. Therefore, the JEEP guide fee is mandatory.

There are two ways to cross to the remote island on the other side.

Method 1: Cross to the island by gondola

Gondola at Timang Beach

This gondola was apparently used to transport lobsters, which are often caught in this coastal area.
Now, it seems to be mainly used for tourism.

This gondola can carry up to two people at a time.
On the way there, I rode with my Indonesian partner, and on the way back, we came back one by one.

The reason is that my body is too big, and my companion said it was scary… (sad…)
※By the way, the author weighs about 90kg, but there was no problem at all even when two people rode together, so please use it with confidence.

This gondola method seems to be the most popular.
The author also recommends this method because you can take photos for Instagram that include the magnificent coastal scenery and the remote island.

Method 2: Walk across the bridge

Extreme suspension bridge

This bridge also looks quite scary…

By the way, the sea in Jogja is also famous for its high waves, so the spray can reach this bridge.

In fact, you have to cross this one on your own, so I saw some people with a fear of heights getting stuck in the middle with their legs shaking…
In that respect, the gondola might be better…

Once you cross…

Once you cross the island, a spectacular view unfolds.

I arrived around 4:00 PM, just in time for sunset, and the combination of the sunset-colored sky and the sea was even more wonderful!

View from Timang Island

The island you cross to (Pulau Timang) is very small, but there are a few photo spots set up.

There are also sample photos at the ticket office showing how to take recommended pictures.

There are staff on the island who will help you take photos, so it’s a good idea to let them help you.

There is also a photo spot for couples where you can take a picture from a place where a hollow in a rock (a hole) looks like a heart.

By the way, this remote island is really just a rocky island with nothing on it, so don’t forget to bring a drink before you cross!

Wooden bridge on Timang Island

The island is basically just rock, so there are wooden bridges like this one.

It’s obviously handmade… which, on the other hand, is quite skillfully made…

Another view of the wooden bridge

Still, it was a bit of a thrill… (cold sweat)

After all, the sea in Yogyakarta is famous for its high and rough waves…

Gondola from the other side

The view of the gondola from the other side is a sight you can’t see very often.

When I was there, a group of Western women crossed over screaming.
Just like a thrill ride… LOL

In this way, you can go to the sea in about an hour and a half in the suburbs of Yogyakarta and enjoy nature to the fullest.
(You can also go to the mountains in about an hour by car! It’s a very nice city where you can enjoy the sea, mountains, ruins, and the city.)
