1977, the beginning of coffee cultivation in East Nusa Tenggara Province The government of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) purchased 4kg of Propelegitim seeds and 4kg of Arabica seeds from Jember, East Java. The Propelegitim seeds were planted in the courtyard of the Ngada Regency Office for Agriculture, Forestry, and Livestock. Meanwhile, the Arabica coffee seeds were planted at the farm of the Maranuza Catholic Mission in Boawae, about 30 kilometers east of Ngada.
From 1978 to 1988, Arabica coffee was also developed in the Golewa and Bajawa districts.
Cultivation of Flores Coffee
Flores Arabica coffee is produced in the highlands of the Ngada district in Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province.
There are two types of delicious coffee on Flores Island.

Bajawa is the best coffee bean from Flores.
The high quality of Bajawa is proven by its presence even outside of Indonesia. The coffee plantations in the highlands of Flores are located at altitudes reaching 1,000 to 1,550 meters above sea level.
Although June and October are typically dry months for producing coffee beans, this is influenced by the region’s climate and annual rainfall of about 2,500mm. Nevertheless, Bajawa, Flores is a very fertile and naturally rich area.
The production of Flores Bajawa coffee has a history of 20 years. A single tree can produce 4 to 5 kilograms, and this high productivity has allowed Flores coffee to enter the international market.
How to Enjoy Flores Coffee
Grind the beans a bit coarsely, preferably to a uniform size, and brew with slightly hotter water at around 90 degrees Celsius (usually around 85°C). This will help to bring out the aroma.
Furthermore, if you prefer a cleaner taste, a paper filter that absorbs excess oils is recommended. If you want to enjoy the unique astringency and aroma of the beans more, a French press is also recommended.
Buying an electric grinder is recommended as it allows for finer and easier adjustment of the grind size. I use this electric grinder.
